A special map for hikers in Kåfjord are available in stores and at the camp site. The valley has a snowmobile track up to over 1000 MASL, which makes access to all the mountain landscapes much easier. The beautiful Sabetjohka mountain landscape is very close to several attractions. The tundras in Birtavarre and Kåfjord alps in Olderdalen, Nordmannvik og Djupvik often has better snowconditions than the surrounding areas. It is also Kåfjord who has the best view to the majestic Lyngen alps! The latitude and dry climate of Birtavarre makes conditions for northern lights very good. Spectacular lights are often spotted.

Facilities | Standard:

If you had a look at our pricelist you may already know that our prices are just about how low as they get in this country, as we are among the rare bread of accomodation providers for the budget conscious traveler. The services provided are basic, and you will not find much goldplated equipment. However we can afford to treat you with a smile or two...
We appreciate all our guests very much, and budget pricing does not mean you don`t deserve clean areas and a good bed to sleep in. And hey, you might even find it luxourious to be awakened by birds singing in the morning.

Basic standard self household cabins.

Minimum fee of 100,- Nok or 10 Euros, for normal end cleaning.
On a strict budget? Ask for our “DIY-deal” (Do It Yourself ) and save money. In fact, since it`s self household cabins, if you don`t ask for cleaning, we expect to find the cabin reasonable clean when you depart. Traditionally, in most part of Scandinavia there`s a silent expectation that you leave the cabin ready for the next guests. Of course we bring equipment with us on inspection, and we don`t mind swiping the floors and make sure everything is clean. Kitchen, laundry, toilets and showers in service-buildings. (No water in cabins.)
Tokens for washing machine.

Household equipment not stored in cabins.
We supply eguipment for our cabin guests included in the price, but we don`t keep it in the cabin. What we achieve is a lower initial price due to saving of houskeeping costs. You simply loan the equipment you need at the reception or in the common kitchen, and you deliver it back on departure. Money saved. (Cooking plate, microwave and refrigerator in all cabins. Waterboiler and appliances available on loan.)

Bed clothing (linen) not stored in cabins.

We know that most of our guests bring their own sleepingbags, or bed clothing. (After all, that`s camping.) Therefore we do not keep our linen in the cabins, and this way you don`t have to pay for a service you may not need. If you need bed linen you pay only a cleaning fee of 100 Nok per bed/stay/change. (Not per night). Duvet only, for use with your own linen are free of charge. This is also a more hygienic system, and a bonus for everyone.

Main service building.

Kitchen, laundry, toilets, showers. The service building is very basically equipped, and are situated in reasonable distance from most cabins and camping spaces.
Washing machine token (50 Nok), tumbler/dryer is free.

What to expect.
Really, you should read all the articles in the main menu, as each page contains information you may need. The pricelists also has information about conditions and additional charges, and you may pay special attention to seasons an summer/winter conditions.
The kitchen in the servicebuilding is fully functional with water, cooking plate, microwave, waterboiler, and other appliances and dishes. However it does not have the standard we would like it to have, so we are now building a new kitchen connected to inside seatings in the common area. The current kitchen will therefore not be updated much, and you should know that it is very basic and for basic needs.  So please bare with us, we know it`s not up to par. PS. We haven`t abondoned it yet so we do of course clean the kitchen every day.
Just keep in mind that until inspection and cleaning, the kitchen only look as good as the latest guest left it. (As in all common kitchens.)

WiFi included for all guests.

Woodfired sauna and hot tub. Selfmanaged, fill with water and wood (for sale, expect around 250 nok.), no other fees. (Keep in mind, tub takes about 3-4 hours to fill and heat up)

If you're an adventure seeker or a nature lover planning a trip to Northern Norway, then Gorsabrua in Kåfjorddalen is a must-visit destination. This spectacular bridge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and is sure to leave you in awe of Norway's natural beauty. Gorza Canyon is northern Europes deepest canyon (App. 150 meters), and a huge 140 meters tall waterfall named Gorzi falls to the bottom of the canyon. A pedestrian bridge ( Gorsabrua ) spans 53 meters over the canyon and with more than 140 meters over to the canyon river. Gorsabrua - Gorsa Bridge connects the landscapes on each side of Gorza canyon. In summer season there will be bungee jumping several weekends. Northern Lights:

The northern lights, or Aurora Borealis, occurs in the northern hemisphere. It's a natural display in the sky caused by charged particles directed by the earths magnetic field. It creates a curtain of colours flaring across the night sky, usually visible during wintertime. The Aurora Borealis can have colours from deep green to a redish glow. Birtavarre and the surrounding areas are great to hunt for the Northern Lights. At BaseCamp Birtavarre the advantage is relatively little light light polution. Please read our page about The Northern Lights, and pay attention to the advices given to maximaze your chances.

See our page on The Northern Lights.

Birtavarre in Norway may be the best place to see Northern Lights in september and oktober.

Birtavarre, located in northern Norway, is indeed one of the best places to witness the Northern Lights in September and October for several compelling reasons, including the summer road up to 800 meters and the minimal light pollution:

Geographical Location: Birtavarre is situated in the Troms region of Norway, which is well within the Arctic Circle and the Aurora oval. This high-latitude location makes it an ideal spot for Northern Lights viewing.

In September and October, the nights really start to get longer, providing more opportunities to see the auroras. Statistically most sigthings are around midnight, and its`s already dark for several hours.

Favorable Weather Conditions: The climate in Birtavarre during September and October is relatively stable. The autumn months bring milder temperatures and less precipitation compared to the winter months, making it more comfortable for outdoor activities and extended Northern Lights viewing sessions.

Clear Skies: Northern Norway, including Birtavarre, often experiences clear skies during September and October. Clear conditions are essential for Northern Lights viewing because clouds can obscure the auroras. Birtavarre's geographical position and relatively dry autumn weather contribute to more nights with clear skies, increasing your chances of spotting the lights.

Altitude Gain: The summer (construction) road leading up to 800 meters in Birtavarre provides a significant advantage for Northern Lights enthusiasts. Being at a higher elevation means that you have more unobstructed view to the auroras, which often occur at altitudes of 80 to 300 kilometers above the Earth's surface. This proximity enhances your chances of seeing vibrant and close-up displays.

Limited Light Pollution: Birtavarre is a small, remote village with limited light pollution. This lack of artificial light interference is crucial for witnessing the Northern Lights in their full glory. Dark skies allow you to see even faint auroras with greater clarity and intensity. Up in the mountain in Birtavarre, you will have even less light pollution.

Northern Lights Season: September and October mark the beginning of the Northern Lights season in northern Norway. While the lights are visible in this region from late August to early April, these early months offer a unique experience. You can witness the auroras against a backdrop of autumnal landscapes, such as colorful foliage and snow-capped mountains.

Fewer Tourists: Unlike the peak winter months, Birtavarre experiences fewer tourists in September and October. This means you can enjoy a more peaceful and intimate Northern Lights experience without large crowds.

To maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights in Birtavarre during September and October, it's important to check the local weather forecasts, keep an eye on aurora forecasts, and stay up-to-date on solar activity, as solar storms can significantly influence the visibility and intensity of the auroras.

Midnight Sun:

The latitude and dry climate of Kåfjord makes good conditions to see the midnight sun.

Please read our page about The Midnight Sun, and pay attention to the advices given to maximaze your chances.

See our page on The Midnight Sun.
