Travel The North

Travelling through the north of Scandinavia can be very exciting, but also challenging, for the unprepared... Therefore a lot of this website is dedicated to guide you through, but also show you some of the best sights and trails.

Also see our page about Travel Insurance

When traveling to northern Scandinavia, there are a few things to consider in order to ensure a safe and comfortable trip:

  1. Weather: The weather in northern Scandinavia can be harsh and unpredictable, with cold temperatures, snow, and ice. Be prepared for the weather by bringing warm clothing, waterproof boots, and other necessary gear. Make sure to check the weather forecast before your trip and be prepared for any changes in the weather.
  2. Daylight: During the summer months, northern Scandinavia experiences the phenomenon of the Midnight sun, which means that the sun does not set, making it hard to sleep. Make sure to bring eye masks or blindfolds to help you sleep, and be prepared for longer days.
  3. Road conditions: During the winter, road conditions in northern Scandinavia can be treacherous, with snow and ice making the roads slippery. Be prepared for longer journeys and possible road closures. Make sure your vehicle is equipped with winter tires, and be sure to check the latest information about road conditions before setting out.
  4. Health: The northern regions of Scandinavia can be remote and sparsely populated, with limited access to medical facilities. Be sure to pack a well-stocked first-aid kit and consider getting travel insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation.
  5. Safety: In remote areas, it is important to be aware of the local environment and any potential hazards, such as wild animals and uneven terrain. Make sure to inform someone of your travel plans and schedule, and to carry a means of communication and a GPS device.
  6. Respect for the culture: Northern Scandinavia is the home of indigenous people, the Sami, who have their own culture, languages, and way of life. Make sure to respect their culture and traditions, and to ask for permission before taking pictures or entering traditional lands.
  7. Sustainability: The northern regions are fragile ecosystems, make sure to be aware of your impact and try to minimize it. Be mindful of your waste and leave no trace behind.

By considering these factors and being prepared, you can make the most of your trip to northern Scandinavia and have a safe and enjoyable experience.
